As the most popular and national-wide standardized English language testing,CET4(College English Test Band-4)is a measurement for testing the English language ability of non-English majors.Nevertheless,with the development of the language testing theory,the information technology and for better detecting the students' ability for English application,especially their ability in listening and speaking,the CET-IBT4 examination emerges as the time requires.For listening,it has played an important role as a kind of language skill in our daily life,education and the social interaction.The washback effect of the listening part of CET-IBT4 indicates there are influences of the CET-IBT4 listening part on the English teaching and learning,which is not only a kind of technique to check out the students' learning ability,but to test the teachers' language teaching.Therefore,in the thesis,the author chooses the listening of the CET-IBT4 as the focal point to make a tentative analysis of the washback effect of CET-IBT4 to date.For this,the author proposes three research questions: first is that what's the advantage of the listening part of CET-IBT4;second,what's the attitude of students for the CET-IBT4 listening part and what influence of it on them;the last one is the suggestions for the teaching and learning of English listening.Firstly,the author has elaborated the theory about the study of the washback effect and some aspects about listening comprehension which made foundation for the research of the washback effect of the listening part of the CET-IBT4.Then,the author manages to find out the advantages in the listening part in aspects such as the construction,testing technique,response type,input material and language ability by making contrast of the CET-PBT4 listening part and that of the CET-IBT4.Afterwards,the paper has employed the multiple research methods like questionnaire and interview for students.By investigation,the author has obtained direct and indirect information for the study of the washbakc effect of the listening part of CET-IBT4.At last,the author analyzed these data and information.The analysis of the data and information have assisted the author to make the following conclusions: firstly,it can be seen that the CET-IBT4 listening part has been more reasonable than the listening part of CET-PBT4 by comparing different aspects on the two listening part.For instance,the testing techniques and materials of the listening part of CET-IBT4 are superior to the CET-PBT4,and the CET-IBT4 tests the ability more comprehensive,which is not only examining the listening ability,but speaking and writing.Secondly,from the questionnaire and interview,the research revealed whether in the overall or detailed aspect,they have showed a positive attitudes and highly agreement to the listening part of CET-IBT4,the positive influence of the CET-IBT4 listening part is in superior position.Aiming at the findings of the research,the author proposes some suggestions for the English teaching and learning,for example,teachers should seek various activities to increase the enjoyment of the class;besides imparting the basic knowledge,it's necessary to pay attention to the cultural transmission and so on,hoping to be helpful to the college English teaching reform.
