This paper mainly studies teaching Chinese as a foreign language,"much/little" usually occurs at primary stage.However the asymmetry and complexity of the relevant phrases also brings great difficulty to teacher’s teaching and the learning of students.To clarify the asymmetry of phrase related to "much/little" and to compare and contrast the internal and external of language will have great importance for searching for the cause of misuse and putting forward resolutions.The review part will focus on studies on "much/little" as well as relevant phrases and also gives a overview on studies on teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Meanwhile,the article will describe and analyze the asymmetry of structures like "much/little + adj","adj +much/little","num.+ much/little","much more/not a few +non" and "very little/not much +non".The article will discuss this issue gradually in three parts:in the first part,basing on the explanation to "much" and "little" in the Contemporary Chinese Dictionary and the Marking Theory,the article considers the "much" to be the unmarked object while the "little" to be marked object.combining form、significance and function;in the second part,the article first compares the meaning of "much/little" in Chinese and Portuguese and then makes a comparison among relevant phrases,reaching the conclusion that the asymmetry in the two languages is one of causes to errors;in the third part,the article makes students in Confucious Instititution at State University of Sao Paulo in Brazil as the objects of research and analyzes some collected inquiries.Meanwhile,making use of the first hand materials the author has received in the two years’ teaching Chinese as a foreign language in Brazil,the article sorts the misused language materials into eight categories according to the feature of relevant structures of "much/little".It also makes a in-depth analysis on the causes to errors and accordingly different put forward solutions,hoping to bring some inspiration to the Chinese Teaching in Brazil.
