Children’s literature is aform of novel, which refers to be suitable for children’s age characteristics, fit them to read,and conducive to the healthy development of children. Children’s literature plays an important role in the growth of children. As a branch of literary translation system, the translation of children’s literature has received more and more attention in recent years. Translation studies on children’s literature abroad has a long history, and has gradually moved to a mature stage. Instead, it started late in China. However, recent years, more researches and many books in this areahave been published.This thesis mainly discussesa short story “white poodle” which was written by Russian famous writer Kuprin in 1903. The characteristics of the language in the novel are extremely good, and the most prominent one is that it includes too many short phrases, spoken language, proverbs and refers to small love which are easy for children to accept. According to the characteristics of the language in the novel, when the translator translated of the time, he must be based on the original language chacterisitcs, original thoughts, feelings and language expressions, and then masterly use children’s literature translation criteria and apply translation methods appropriate.The quality of a children’s literature translation depends on whether the translator translates the key words accurately. If he wants to translate the literature accurately and vividly, at first how to select the words is the key factor. The readers of Children’s literature are children. Therefore, the words selection on the translation of children’s literature must be suitable for children’s comprehension and language habits. Secondly, the objective condition of “white poodle” in the presence of translator’s selection of words is restricted. The objective condition is caused because of the different culture and language habits, so the translator should use appropriate translation strategies to choice appropriate words.This report is composed of five parts: introduction, the first part, the second part, the third part and conclusion. Introduction part includes the significance of the translation on children’s literature, the introduction of the author and the evaluation of the work. The first part mainly summarizes the language features, translation standards and methods inthis novel. The second part focuses on the words selection from different views and characteristics on children’s literature translation. The third part discusses the objective factors which affect children’sliterature translation. The part of conclusion is a summary of this translation practice.
