An Analysis On Symbolism Of Oil Painting

Strictly speaking,everything has its symbolic meaning,especially on spiritual level of human culture.As a kind of cultural medium,it is basically embody of a culture and spirit in the area of oil painting though there are differences on techniques of schools of painting,and composition and organizational forms.Every practical behaviors of human is beyond the visual limit,revealing profundity of humanistic thoughts and the multiple dimensions of the reality.All practical purposes under the name of art are to make cultured mind external and materialized.Oil painting which is deemed as a symbol of art reflection and mind perceives in the history of art and culture of human beings plays a key role in the relationship of human being,nature and the expression.Human painting develops for thousands of years from cave painting of Rascoe to post-modernism painting,from phoenix and dragon of the flags to call the spirits home in the tombs of ancient China to modern and contemporary oil painting with comprehensive materials while symbolism has accompanied and witnessed this historical process.Modern Italy is the origin of the oil painting.Symbolist painting had been developing constantly in 19 th century in France,and other European countries and some painter groups had made their own contributions for the development of art culture.What this paper focuses on is that the artists express tradition,regional culture and personal thoughts on painting,especially oil painting,not by complying with characteristics of naturalism in which the reality is described through objective phenomenon,but by applying the implied meaning and transcendent understanding on human nature.Firstly,this paper starts on the definition and understanding of oil painting's history,aims to find the relevant historical clues by exploring on history of symbol culture.Secondly,we analyze the different manifestations for every element of symbolism in oil painting to clarify embody on painting image,color,material,theme,style,subject,and so on and the directivity feature of culture spirit.Finally,it reveals the meaning and different shapes of symbolism in the spirit of traditional culture by analyzing on the development of nature and specific features of symbolism in oil painting to offer culture consciousness consideration and spiritual directions for the development of Chinese oil painting.
