Naoko-Awa(1943-1993),a Japanese female writer known for her fairy tales,whose works have won the Prize for Children’s Literature many times,has a reputation for "Literary Award Ever Victor".When she died suddenly aged 50,Naoko-Awa left behind more than 270 works.With the prevalence of her works around the world,a large number of them were translated and published in China,becoming the classic primers for children.Her works are unlimited in imagination,ingenious in construction,rich in sentiment,terse and elegant in language.Affected by the Brothers Grimm,Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales and other European traditions,and integrated the traditional Japanese creations,she has formed own artistic style.At the aspects of implication,structural setting,a comprehensive analysis of the image of creatures,the thesis demonstrates Naoko-Awa’s artistic characteristics of fantasy fiction.From the perspective of the thematic implication,the first chapter states artistic characteristics of Naoko-Awa’s fantasy fiction.The first section indicates Naoko-Awa was adept at conveying her emotional attitude missing the old days to the readers.The second quarter mainly discusses educational meaning of her novels.The second chapter introduces the structural arrangement of Naoko-Awa’s fantasy fiction.The first section is "not a happy ending",talking about textual modes--"circular spiral structure",which means the story was back to reality finally rather than "happy" ending.The self-consciousness and values of protagonists presented spiral growth and evolution.Her works not only exudes a faint sadness,but also give the reader longing and hope.Section II is "Conversion from fantasy to reality".It is no clear boundaries between reality and fantasy that brings a natural transition and makes her novels mysterious.The third chapter demonstrates artistic characteristics from the point of creatures’ image,including human image and fairy image.In the "human image" of this chapter,the fiction of the human characters are divided into two categories-"Carriers loving food" and "messengers calling for peace".The chapter "fairy image" mainly analyzes the inheritance and innovation of traditional Japanese fairy culture.The fourth chapter goes back to the artistic origin of Naoko-Awa novels.On the one hand,childhood experiences impacted on her writing.On the other hand,the Brothers Grimm,Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales and other European traditions were absorbed into her artistic creation.
