This is a translation report and the source text is selected from Journal of the American Medical Association. On December 18, 2013, Journal of the American Medical Association published online the eighth Group Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention,Detection,Evaluation and Treatment of High Blood Pressure(JNC8), namely 2014 Evidence-Based Guideline for the Management of High Blood Pressure in Adults. It strictly follows the evidence from randomized controlled trials to recommend the treatment of hypertension in adult thresholds, targets and intervention methods, and it also answered three core questions and provided nine recommendations. Hypentension remains one of the most important preventable contributors to disease and death, therefore, the translator hopes that the translation report can provide some reference and guidance for the prevention and treatment of hypertension in China. The perspective of this report is communicative translation theory. The new guideline contains nine recommendations and a treatment flow chart to help doctors treat patients with hypertension. According to Newmark's text type theory, the original text belongs to informative text and applies to communicative translation theory. The theory emphasizes that the target readers and original readers should get the same reading experience, rather than the restrictive translation of word by word or sentence by sentence. Under the guidance of communicative translation theory, the report should be faithful to the original content, focus on the expression effect of the translation, and aim to transfer of information effectively. The report consists four parts. The first part introduced the translation project, including a brief introduction of JNC8, the original text, and the significance of the project. The second part included the analysis of the original text and translation strategies proposed. This part explained the original stylistic characteristics and linguistic features, then pointed out the translation difficulties, translation strategies and translation preparation. The third part analyzed the concrete translation cases and emphasized the specific translation methods used in the translation report, such as linear translation, inverse translation and division translation. The last part summarized the translation experience, the lessons learned and the problems to be resolved. This report aims to explore the guiding role of communicative translation theory in informative text and searches for the appropriate translation approaches under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation theory.
