| This is a translation project report. The source text of this report is Chapter 10 and Chapter 11 of Parenting with a Story: Real-life Lessons in Character for Parents and Children to Share by Paul Smith. The main content of this book is teaching parenting experience by sharing various stories. The themes of Chapter 10 and Chapter 11 are respectively self-confidence and self-discipline.This report is mainly divided into five parts: Part One gives a brief introduction, including the background, objective, significance and structure of the Project. Part Two presents the analysis of the source text in the project, which mainly talks about the brief introduction to the author and main content, text type and linguistic features of the source text. Part Three is about the theoretical foundation that supports the whole translation report, that is Peter Newmark’s text type analysis theory, communicative translation and semantic translation. And some translation difficulties and corresponding strategies are stated in Part Four. The difficulties lie in the translation of proper nouns and long sentences. Aiming at these two difficulties, the translator adopts literal translation plus annotation, extension of meaning, sequential translation and amplification. Finally, in the fifth part, the author summarizes the lessons and enlightenment from translation, as well as some remaining problems. |
