Family education plays a crucial role in the growth of people. This is a translation project report on Introduction to Chapter 2 of the book, Parenting with a Story: Real-Life Lessons in Character for Parents and Children to Share written by Paul Smith. In these parts, the main content not only aims at studying how to cultivate offspring through the author's own experience and real stories from all over the world, but also tends to discuss the effects of character cultivation on the growth of children. The main content of this report is divided into four parts. Part one is the introduction which includes summary, background, significance and structure of this translation project. Part two is the research background consisting of introduction to the original text and theoretical foundation of the report, and the former is made up of author profiles and the original text's contents and features. Part three focuses on translation difficulties and techniques, and difficulties involve proper nouns and phrases, title and witty words as well as long and complex sentences. Because there is a need to transfer the source language to the target language, some translation techniques must be used in order to make sentences smooth and idiomatic. Translation techniques comprise shift of perspective and adaptation, addition and omission, division and combination. Part four is the conclusion, a summary to this report by the translator, including some rewarding experiences obtained in the translation process as well as lessons learned and issues unsolved.
