| The fourth plenary session of the 18 th Communist Party of China(CPC) Central Committee announced one of the major tasks was to combine our socialist system of laws with the system of virtue. The harmonious development and the overall progress of our society can be ensured only with the combination of these two systems. It is no doubt that the idea of “Government by Virtue” by Confucius has great significance in its own era and today. In the current stage of social development in China and in the process of building harmonious socialist society, the idea of “Government by Virtue” by Confucius will drive the development of the ideological and ethical cultivation by its deep connotation. Cultivating social trends of recognizing honor and disgrace, practicing integrity, encouraging dedication and promoting harmony have great significance on the construction of harmonious socialist society. A guiding ideology is indispensable in every single link of the whole process of building harmonious socialist society. The idea of “Government by Virtue” is the quintessence of traditional Chinese culture. Thus, to further explore how to effectively combine the idea of “Government by Virtue” with the construction of harmonious socialist society and to deeply explore the modern value of “Government by Virtue” in building harmonious socialist society have become a new research worth studying.This paper includes four chapters: Chapter One points out the background, purpose, and significance of this studies, studying carefully the existing points and views of the idea of “Government by Virtue”, the construction of harmonious socialist society, and the relationships between them by the domestic and abroad experts and scholars, and settling the study method and logic of this thesis; Chapter Two deeply studies on the background of the occurrence of “Government by Virtue” by Confucius and its main meanings and features; Chapter Three researches the problems appeared in the process of building harmonious socialist society through interviews and data analyses, analyzing the causes of these problems; Chapter Four gives a deep exploration of using the idea of “Government by Virtue” to guide the development process of building harmonious socialist society and studies on how to solve the problems mentioned above, promoting the application of the quintessence of traditional Chinese culture to the process of the development of harmonious socialist society. |
