A Report On The Chinese Translation Of The GM Food Texts

Attention has been increasingly paid to Genetically Modified Organism(GMO). Due to the differences in understanding the meanings, principles, applications, advantages and disadvantages of GMO, there have been debates on the genetically modified crops and food. And GMO has become a hot topic in the society.The author of the present report translated some English texts from foreign websites on genetically modified food. Based on the translation, the report aims to analyze and summarize the translation problems and solution strategies. It consists of four parts-- the translation task description, the process description, the case analysis and the conclusion. The translation task description presents the task background and its features. The process description describes the translation process. The case analysis shows the problems and translation strategies adopted in the translation process. The problems are those met in the translation of proper names, lexical meanings, linguistic style and background knowledge. Accordingly the translation strategies are discussed. The conclusion summarizes the translator’s drawbacks and the unsolved problems. Hopefully, the present report may be helpful for the future translation tasks concerned.
