| This paper is a translation report for chapter 1 in Matching Contributions for Pensions, which was published on the official website of the World Bank. This book is edited by Richard Hinz, Robert Holzman, David Tuesta and Noriyuki Takayama. It is a review and analysis over the experience of using matching contribution system as part of old security in all types of country. This work made an initial but very critical step for policy makers and practitioners learn lessons and do a better job to create a sustainable pension system with full coverage and adequate benefit.This report is based on the translation of chapter 1, which gives a brief introduction of the matching contribution system. This chapter also discussed the policy promise, significance as well as practicing problems of the system. Since China now is stepping into an older society without a sustainable pension scheme, this translation work can inform policy makers and try to build a reasonable old security system that suits China's own conditions.This report is consisted of four parts. The first part is a discussion over the background of this translation project. The author elaborates the objectives and significance of it and makes a brief introduction of the entire source text. In the second part the author enumerates the difficulties encountered during the translation project and gives solutions.The third part is an introduction of one the famous translation theories of the functional equivalence by Nida. Since the source text is informative, the author chooses to combine Nida's theory with this translation project and produces a detailed explanation about its application. The author showcases the process of dealing with translating difficulties in the this part sentence by sentence. The final part is a summary of the author's experience and lesson obtained from this translating project. Some problems to be solved are also given in this part. |
