| Along with the development of China, more and more foreigners choose to study Chinese in past decades. A good textbook plays a significant role when studying language.Meanwhile, scholars pay increasing attention on the write of Chinese textbook. From the earliest emphasis on structure, to an integration of structure, function and culture, cultural factors has became an curial part. Many priori work focus on the research of domestic textbook, however, the research of cultural factors of foreign local textbook is rare. A New China is a wildly used Chinese textbook in American and many Chinese programs, and it is highly recommended by students and teachers. A New China has many advantages in teaching cultural factors, but it still has some shortcomings. In this thesis, we will research cultural factors in A New China to make students study well.Based on the "International Chinese Textbook Cultural Factors Classification Infrastructure", using both quantitative and qualitative methodology.Meanwhile, we analyze this book according to an investigation to the teachers and students in CET-CS. We found this book has following characteristics in cultural factors:targeted, contrast, speculative, objectivity, utility and reproducibility. Author also provide some suggestion to the difference of related cultural factors. In another side, the contents of the textbook cannot meet the needs of all learners.The presentation of cultural factors include:text, vocabulary, grammar sentence and practice. But it is a lack of pictures, and the important cultural interpretation of the word is not enough. Besides, most of the cultural factors are hidden in contents, there are always few obvious expressions. We also found some cultural factors can't show the real Chinese's life.This book has few cultural factor about Asian culture.The exercise should include discussion.To solve these problems, this thesis proposes my own suggestions, hoping to provide little reference to the new edition in the future. |
