A Practice Report On The Translation Of Feasibility Study On Cote D’Ivoire Ecological Agriculture Comprehensive Development Project

In 1980s, China began to regard ecological agriculture as a new model of modern agricultural development. Over 20 years of practice shows that ecological agriculture has a positive effect on improving and protecting the ecological environment of agriculture and enhancing the sustainable development of agriculture. Therefore, an increasing number of agricultural ST papers call for quality translation.This paper is a translation practice based on Feasibility Study on Cote d’Ivoire Ecological Agriculture Comprehensive Development Project. The original text mainly discusses the ecological agriculture in Cote d’Ivoire organized by Henan Sannong Ecological Industry Co., Ltd. It involves rigorous syntax and objective content which is a typical example of science and technology (ST) paper in terms of agriculture.The paper first briefly introduces the source text and then describes the whole task process, including preparation, translation process and revision. Next, it presents the core which mainly expounds the case analysis based on Catford’s theory of shifts (level shifts and category shifts). Finally, it gives the summary of the report and prospect of the author. The report indicates that Catford’s shifts theory has a significance on instructing this practical translation especially level shifts which are conducive to guide translators to avoid making mistakes in tense and number of nouns. The author also points out its flaw from the perspective of context. It is the author’s hope that she can improve translation ability and that her report will be conducive to others in translating texts for ST papers.
