History Will Not Exile

In the new era of globalization, China becomes increasingly powerful. However, the currently imbalance development between prosperity and civilization, which forces us to make self-reflection on this dilemma, and think about how history education can better work for the cultivation of national spirit, inheritance and development of traditional culture, and explore the effective use of traditional culture in educating next generation as well as enlightening them to be qualified Chinese nationals. This series of problems require responses urgently. Qian Mu, with his keen foresight, extraordinary wisdom and arduous practice, has made a comprehensive, profound and groundbreaking exploration on history education which greatly promote the modernization of history education. This paper is intended to dwell on Qian Mu's lifelong aspiration---- understanding true history, cultivating history knowledge and growing up to be the qualified Chinese nationals, these are all basic but often forgotten common sense in history education. As the starting point and basis, the formation of Qian Mu's history education and its practice will be reviewed. Then, the main connotation and characteristics of his history education thought and its theory and methods will be summarized. In the current transitional society, based on the history education in primary school, high school and university, a new thought on history education emerges ---- "top-level design".
