Morpheme and words are important components of modern Chinese grammar.How to use morphemic meaning to acquire words’ meaning has been the focus of teaching Chinese to speakers of other language(TCSOL)for a long time.The thesis attempts to start from microscopic perspective and focuses on disyllabic compound verb which is with less research in current stage but occupies important status in vocabulary teaching of TCSOL,and selects middle and senior level long-term oversea students in institute for international students of Nanjing University whose mother tongue is English as participants.The thesis emphasizes the influence of semantic transparency,internal structure of words and polysemy morphemes on Chinese disyllabic compound verb lexical meaning acquisition through statistical investigation questionnaire,and analysis on related results.The thesis first compares similar usage of compound verbs in Chinese and English,summarizes difference between them;and then combines the concept of semantic transparency in cognitive psychology,classifies disyllabic compound verb in Chinese into combined disyllabic compound verb and integrated disyllabic compound verbs based on disyllabic of morphemes;and classifies into combined Verb-Objective disyllabic compound verbs and combined paralleling disyllabic compound verbs,combined biased positive disyllabic compound verbs and integrated Verb-Objective compound verbs,integrate paralleling disyllabic compound verbs,integrated biased-positive disyllabic compound verbs,and then makes statistics about the accuracy of participants when speculating lexical meaning of these six types of disyllabic compound verbs in order to make a sequence list about degree of difficulties in disyllabic compound verbs teaching in TCSOL.Through analysis and statistics,the writer finds the following rules:1.Middle level oversea students are used to speculating lexical meaning of new words based on the sum of morphemic meaning,while oversea students with more years of study tend to speculate based on the whole word ’s meaning;2.The morpheme of transparent words promotes lexical meaning acquisition,and morphemes of opaque words limit lexical meaning acquisition;3.The structural form of words has certain influence on lexical meaning acquisition.As to combined compound verb,in the aspect of difficulty in lexical meaning acquisition,biased-positive formation>Verb-Objective structure>parataxis;as to integrated compound verb,in the aspect of difficulty of lexical meaning acquisition,biased-positive formation>parataxis>Verb-Objective structure;4.Among perception of participants,the morpheme meanings in two morphemes former and latter have different status in lexical meanings of disyllabic compound verbs with different morphological form.Based on questionnaire results and data analysis,we propose the following several suggestions for teaching.First,reinforce the effect of morpheme and word formation in vocabulary teaching of disyllabic compound verbs to help students consolidate lexical meaning through flexible application of comparative exercises of synonym discrimination,inverse morpheme words comparison and so on;secondly,adopt graded teaching where teacher teaches morphemes and vocabulary teaching alternately targeted at middle and senior level of oversea students;next,adopt comparative teaching combined with comparison of similar usage of compound verbs in Chinese and English to adopt good points and avoid shortcomings,guiding students to differentiate usage in Chinese and English correctly,reducing negative influence of mother tongue transfer to the largest extent.Finally,targeted at textbook compilation,we suggest adding vocabulary conforming to lexical system of Chinese in textbook,and reduce direct English verbs based on words formation,and emphasize the important effect of word formation.
