Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the gray matter volumes(GMV)alterations in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS)by using voxel-based morphometry method(VBM)of magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).Methods: 55 cases of OSAHS patients who were diagnosed by polysomnography(PSG)in Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University were enrolled from December 2016 to December 2017.According to apnea hypopnea index, they were divided into mild group(10 cases),moderate group(11 cases),severe group(34 cases).15 cases of healthy people with physical examination results and excluded sleep disorders by PSG were selected as control group. These two groups were matched with altitude, age, gender and elevation of residential. Then we used the VBM method compared the whole brain GMV among OSAHS and control group. Results: The cerebelum crus2 R,cerebelum crus2 L,cerebellum 8 R,fusiform_L,lingual_L were increased, and parahippocampal_R was reduced compared with control group. The volume of left amygdala, left hippocampal and left insular gray matter in patients with moderate OSAHS were decreased compared with those in mild patients. The volume of the right parahippocampal gray matter were decreased in severe OSAHS patients compared with mild patients. The volume of the left caudate nucleus and left-sided putamen gray matter in patients with severe OSAHS were increased, and bilateral thalamic was reduced compared with moderate group. Conclusions: 1.Compared with the control group, the gray matter volume of some brain regions in the OSAHS group changed, indicating that OSAHS can lead to changes in the brain structure.2.The change of brain regions of different degrees of OSAHS patients' gray matter volume were different, which indicates that different degrees of OSAHS may affect different brain structure.
