The Discovery Of Components And Research On Bioactivities Of Cinnamomum Cassia And Carpesium Abrotanoides

Cinnamomum cassia,belonging to the Cinnamomum genus of Lauraceae,is an evergreen tree mainly distributed in the tropics and subtropias areas,especially in Yunnan,Fujian,Guangdong,and Hainan Province,China.Cinnamomum cassia is not only a valuable traditional Chinese medicine,is also famous for one of the food source of the spice cassia.Carpesium abrotanoides,belonging to the Carpesium genus of Asteraceae,is a biennial herb.This plant has long been used in traditional medicines for treating various diseases in China,Korea,and Japan.Previous studies on this plant revealed the presence of monoterpenes,sesquiterpenoids,diterpenoids,triterpenes,steroids,and phenolic compounds,which possess various pharmacological activities including antifungal,antibacterial,anti-inflammatory,anti-plasmodial,anti-tumor,and anti-oxidant activities.This paper made a comprehensive chemical components research,to the Cinnamomum cassia of Lauraceae and Carpesium abrotanoides of Asteraceae,respectively.44 compounds were isolated by various chromatography methods(such as silica gel column chromatography(CC),semi-preparation high performance liquid chromatography(semi-prep HPLC),preparation thin layer chromatography(PTLC),thin layer chromatography(TLC),Sephadex LH-20.And many spectral analysis means(such as IR,EI-MS,HRESIMS,NMR,and X-ray single crystal diffraction experiment)were used to identify the 44 compounds.The EtOH extract of the leaves of Cinnamomum cassia were separated by various methods to get 22 compounds,including seven phenylpropanoid compounds,five steroids,three flavonoids,two vitamins and five other compounds.The EtOH extract of the Carpesium abrotanoides were isloated to get 22 compounds,including three monoterpenes,eleven sesquiterpene lactones,one diterpenes,one triterpene,four steroids,and two other compounds.Among them,four are new compounds.In order to search for bioactivite natural compounds,the isolated compounds from Cinnamomum cassia were tested for biological activity against Alzheimer’s disease(AD)using C.elegans CL4176 paralysis experiment method,the compounds QL-07 and QL-10 were found to have anti-AD activity.And the cytotoxicity assays of these new compounds from Carpesiumabrotanoides were performed.Only compound CQ-02 exhibited cytotoxic effect toward human leukemic(HL-60)cells.Meanwhile,we have summarized variety resources,chemical constituents,and biological activities of the Cinnamomum cassia.We want to provide the reference value for better development and utilization of the medicinal value of the C.cassia.
