Superficial siderosis of the central nervous system is a rare disease caused by chronic and repeated subarachnoid hemorrhage resulting in the deposition of hemoflavin on the surface of the brain and spinal cord, causing damage to the neurons.Patients often present with progressive symptoms, usually including progressive cerebellar ataxia gait, sensorineural hearing loss and pyramidal tract sign.Although people usually conduct extensive examinations for the cause of the disease, the source of bleeding is often unclear.Because of the wide application of magnetic resonance imaging, more and more asymptomatic central nervous system brain surface iron deposits have been discovered.More and more SS cases have been reported in the literature. We present a new case and review the relevant literature to explore the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features and treatment options of SS.
