Objective: To observe and analyze the changes of corneal endothelial cell density(ECD),morphology((mean cell area(AVE),cell area change coefficient(CV),hexagonal cell percentage(6A))and central corneal thickness(CCT)after phacoemulsification in patients with age-related cataract between Uygur and Han nationalities, and to find out whether there is any difference in the repair of corneal endothelium after different ethnic groups. Methods: 60 cases(60eyes)of Uygur and Han age related cataract were collected in our hospital. The age of the patients and the classification of nuclear hardness were recorded in detail according to the group. The cumulative ultrasonic energy(CDE)and phacoemulsification time(UST)were recorded during the operation.Corneal endothelial cell density(ECD),average cell area(AVE),coefficient of variation(CV),percentage of hexagonal cells(6A)and central corneal thickness(CCT)were measured before and 1 weeks,January,March and June.Statistical analysis of data was performed by SPSS17.0 statistical software. Results: The cumulative ultrasonic energy(CDE)and phacoemulsification time(UST)in the Uygur patients group and the Han group were compared, and the difference was not statistically significant(P >0.05).Corneal endothelial cell density(ECD)in Uygur patients and Han patients decreased significantly after operation. The difference between 1 weeks,January,March and June was statistically significant(P <0.05).The corneal endothelial cell density(ECD)in Uygur group was lower than that of Han nationality before,1 weeks,March and June. The difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).The corneal endothelial cell loss rate of Uygur and Han patients was statistically significant in January(P <0.05).The average area(AVE)of corneal endothelial cells(AVE),coefficient of variation(CV)andpercentage of hexagonal cells(6A)in the Uygur patients group and the Han group were statistically significant(P <0.05)after 1 weeks,January,March, and June. The two groups were compared in January and March. The mean area(AVE)of corneal endothelial cells increased significantly(P <0.05).The central corneal thickness(CCT)increased most obviously at 1 weeks after operation in Uygur patients and Han patients, and was statistically significant(P <0.05)compared with pre operation(P <0.05).In the two groups, the central corneal thickness(CCT)of the Han group was larger than the Uygur group in January, and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).The central corneal thickness(CCT)of the two groups returned to the preoperative level, and the difference was not statistically significant(P >0.005).Conclusions: Corneal endothelial cell density(ECD)decreased and corneal endothelial cell morphology changed after phacoemulsification. There were differences in corneal endothelial cell density(ECD)between Uygur and Han patients before and after phacoemulsification. The average area of corneal endothelium(AVE)and the degree of central corneal thickness(CCT)after phacoemulsification were different in Uygur patients after phacoemulsification.
