Surgical Outcome And Analysis Of Affecting Factors Of Focal Cortical Dysplasia In Children And Adolescents

Objective:To explore the prognostic factors of the surgical treatment of refractory epilepsy with focal cortical dysplasia in children and adolescents.Method:Retrospective analysis the surgical outcomes of 45 children and adolescent FCD patients with intractable epilepsy,who also accepted surgery treatment in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University.Collect and analyze the preoperative evaluation results,postoperative pathological results then follow-up patients.Engel classification method was used to analyze the surgical effects.Use ILAE pathologic grade to identify the FCD pathologic grade.Analysis the age of epilepsy onset?the age of accept surgical treatment,the duration of epilepsy onset,the frequency of epilepsy onset,pathologic grade and whether the lesion was complete resection is related to the surgical outcome.Result:In 45 patients,29 cases were Engel class I,16 cases were Engel class II-IV.The complete resection of the lesion(c~2=10.195,P=0.001)and more severe pathologic grade(c~2=4.051,P=0.044)were important factors in determining better surgical outcomes.But other factors were not correlated with a better surgical outcome(P>0.05).Conclusion:The surgical outcome of FCD was favorable(64.4%).For patients with complete resection of the lesion (c~2=10.195,P=0.001)and more severe pathologic grade can obtain better Postoperative outcomes by surgical treatment.Also the age of epilepsy onset?the age of accept surgical treatment,the duration of epilepsy onset,the frequency of epilepsy onset were not correlated with a better surgical outcome.But on account of the characteristic of the FCD,patients need to obtain medical intervention at a early stage.
