ObjectivesTo assess the present situation of self-efficacy for preventing social isolation,self-care ability and frailty among the community elderly. To investigate the relationship between selfefficacy for preventing social isolation,self-care ability and frailty, which will provide a scientific basis for the health intervention of community elderly.MethodsA cross sectional survey was carried out in Liaoning Province by the convenience sample.Respondents were selected from community in Jinzhou(Taihe district,Guta district and Linghe district). The general demographic questionnaire,Community's self-efficacy scale for preventing social isolation(CSES),self-care ability scale(SASE)and the comprehensive frailty assessment instrument(CFAI)were used to evaluate the general demographic information,self-efficacy for preventing social isolation,self-care ability and frailty.SPSS 17.0 was used for descriptive analysis,T-test,variance analysis,Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis.AMOS,7.0 was used to verify the mediating effect model.Results1.The score of CSES,SASE and CFAI were(11.91±7.04),(66.51 ±6.42)and(23.13±0.1 4)respectively.2.There was a significant difference in community's self-efficacy for preventing social isolation with different degree of education and physical activities(P<0.05);There was a significant difference in self-care ability with different degree of education, living situation and the number of chronic diseases(P<0.05);There was a significant difference in frailty with different monthly incomes, chronic diseases and physical activities(P<0.05).3.The results of simple linear regression showed that community's self-efficacy for preventing social isolation proved to be negative predictor of frailty(?=-0.219,t=-0.608,P<0.05),and positive predictor of self-care ability(?=0.184,t=3.689,P<0.05).The results of multiple linear regression showed that community's self-efficacy for preventing social isolation(?=-0.194,t=-4.043,P<0.05)and self-care ability(?=-0.137,t=-2.800,P<0.05)proved to be negative predictors of frailty.4.The results of structural equation model showed that the relationship between community's self-efficacy for preventing social isolation and frailty was partly mediated by self-care ability. The direct effect and indirect effect of Community's self-efficacy for preventing social isolation on frailty were-0.21 and-0.03.The direct effect of self-care ability on frailty was-0.14.ConclusionsThe level of community's self-efficacy for preventing social isolation and self-care ability is considered in the middle. There was correlation between the score of community's self-efficacy for preventing social isolation,self-care ability and frailty.Community's self-efficacy for preventing social isolation was significant predict factor of self-care ability and frailty,self-care ability was significant predict factor of frailty.Community's self-efficacy for preventing social isolation plays a indirect effect on frailty by the mediating effect of self-care ability among the elderly. This study also suggested that relevant departments should take steps to enhance community's self-efficacy for preventing social isolation and self-care ability for alleviating the degree of frailty.
