ObjectiveTo explore the therapeutic effect of acupuncturing Wuhu points in athletes with acute ankle sprain.MethodsSeventy-four acute ankle sprain patients came from the basketball and volleyball management center of Fujian province From January 2017 to November 2017 who met inclusion criteria. It was randomly divided into trial group and control group. The control group was treated with "RICE" therapy."R" stands for "Rest" which refers to having a rest.We should ask the patients to stop exercising, and keep damaged joints in the static state without loading;"I" stands for "Ice" which refers to icing the wounded body for 30 minutes once a day;"C" stands for "Compression" which refers to pressure bandageing with one inch thick cotton on the wound, using the elastic bandage to bind the patient which is like an "8";"E" stands for "Elevation",referring to raising the affected limb, and keep the limb placing above the heart. The trial group was treated with acupuncturing Wuhu points combining with"RICE" therapy.Wuhu point refers to Dong Qi points in thumb radialis, first knuckle junction of the red and white skin, from the fingertips to the palm,There are five points which are divided into six parts.Treating by cross contralateral acupoints along the proximal end of the first quarter, along thumb medial border.Using your finger to press according to the order of the paint.Rubbing while looking for the painest point with needling the point, for thirty minutes once a day.At the same time, asking the paitients to active the limb. The intervention time was 2 days.Clinical symptoms and signs grading standards,VAS(visual analog pain scale),AOFAS Ankle Hindfoot Scale were used to evaluate the clinical curative effect and value of acupuncturing Wuhu points in the treatment of acute ankle sprain.By sorting out and analyzing the clinical data,we systematically evaluated the therapeutic effect of two treatments in order to provide clinical and theoretical basis for the treatment of acute ankle sprain.ResultsThere was no statistical significance between the two groups in gender, age, course of disease, disease stage, disease staging pain score and ankle joint symptom score, which means the baseline data between groups are comparable. The clinical symptoms and signs grading standards, the VAS and the American orthopedic foot and ankle society(AOFAS)ankle hindfoot score were not statistically significant before treatment. In each group, the VAS,the clinical symptoms and signs grading total score and the overall response rate(ORR)after treatment were all statistically significant in comparing with those before treatment. These score comparison between the two groups were also statistically significant, which indicated the efficacy difference between trial group and control group is significantly different. There was no statistical difference in the clinical symptom joint swelling score and the AOFAS ankle hindfoot score in each grovup before and after treatment, while these comparison between the two groups was statistically significant before and after treatment.ConclusionThe combination of acupuncturing Wuhu points with RICE is superior to conventional RICE therapy, especially in joint pain, joint tenderness and joint dysfunction.Acupuncturing Wuhu points combined with RICE therapy has a significant therapeutic effect. Its advantages are obvious and It is worthy of being widely popularized in clinical practice.
