Objectives: By designing and implementing a targeted and simple Montessori sensory training program, the objectives of this study were:(1)to observe its effects on the cognitive function and daily living function in the elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment;(2)to explore a Montessori sense education method suitable for elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment;(3)in order to provide reference for training methods and interventions for elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment. Methods: From February to August 2017,this research screened the elderly who are at the age of 60 to 85 in Guangxi Chongyang elderly apartment for cognitive function and screened out those who met the study standards. All the subjects were divided into the observational group(23subjects)and the control group(24 subjects). In the control group, routine nursing intervention was performed. In the observational group, besides routine nursing intervention,a targeted and simple Montessori sensory training program was implemented. The Montessori sensory training program was designed according to the principle of Montessori sensory education law,the sensory teaching tools were used as the medium of implementation. Moreover, this program mainly focused on the aspects of sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste. The form of intervention was individual intervention, and the intervention time was 40 minutes each time(3 times a week, totally 12 weeks). The intervention effect was evaluated by Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale(MoCA),Mini Mental State Examination(MMSE)and Daily Living Ability Scale(ADL).Results:The cognitive function of the two groups was compared: the total scores of cognitive function and scores of each dimension of the two groups were analyzed after 12 weeks of intervention. The results showed that after 12 weeks of intervention, the observation group had a total MoCA score of(23.39±1.56)points,a visual space and executive function score of(3.70± 0.97)points,a naming ability score of(3.00 ± 0.00)points,and an attention score of(2.70±0.47)points,language ability scores of(1.78±0.52)points,orientation ability scores were(4.96 ± 0.71)points,MMSE scores were(24.65±1.23)points,and time orientation ability scores were(3.96±0.82)points,language,visual space ability scores were(7.39±0.89)points,and compared with the control group the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05).Among which the scores of observation group after 12 weeks of intervention as MoCA total score, naming ability score, delayed recall ability scores, orientation ability scores,MMSE score, time orientation ability scores, language and visual space ability scores were significantly different compare with before the intervention(p<0.05).We compared the activity of daily living in two groups: comparison of activity of daily living of the two groups: the ADL total score and the scores of each dimension of the two groups were analyzed after 12 weeks of intervention. The results showed that the ADL score of the observation group was(20.43±2.13)points,the basic activities of daily living(BADL)score was(6.87±0.97)points and the instrumental activity of daily living(IADL)score was(13.57±1.70)points after 12 weeks of intervention, the difference was statistically significant compared with the control group(p<0.05);the ADL scores and BADL scores of the observation group after 12 weeks of intervention, had significant statistically difference compared with before the intervention(p<0.05).Conclusion(s): The Montessori sensory education method couldimprove the cognitive function, daily living ability to some degrees, and enhance the quality of life in the elderly with MCI.
