Background and Objective:Today, over 46 million people live with dementia worldwide. This number is estimated to increase to 131.5 million by 2050.Mild Cognitive Impairment(MCI)as Dementia early state,if intervene at this stage, can help slow the Cognitive decline in patients with MCI,improving daily living ability and negative psychological feelings. At home and abroad in the light of the research mainly includes drug intervention of MCI and non-drug intervention, however, due to the effect of drug treatment to slow the development of MCI progression of lack of evidence and is serious adverse reactions, more and more researchers begin to pay close attention to non-drug intervention of MCI.At home and abroad about the MCI non-drug intervention study samples, for the most part, from the community or clinical, few studies have looked at MCI group pension institutions, and the elderly are widespread age pension institutions aging, more basic diseases, weak wait for a phenomenon.Therefore,non-drug interventions currently applied to community MCI populations are not fully applicable to the MCI community of pension institutions.1.To understand the current status of mild cognitive impairment in elderly residents aged 65 and over who have been living in nursing homes in Suzhou for a long time.2.Establish a handcraft therapy intervention for the elderly with mild cognitive impairment in nursing homes.3.To explore the effects of the handcraft therapy intervention among the elderly with mild cognitive impairment living in nursing homes.Methods:1.Using a cross-sectional survey method,we collected demographic informations assessment of cognitive function and ability to perform daily life of the older persons living in nursing homes in Suzhou by using home-made general information questionnaires,Montreal Cognitive Assessment(Mo CA)and Acitivities of Daily Living Scale(ADL).Analyzing the current status of the elderly with Mild cognitive impairment and influencing factors.2.A literature review of current non-pharmacological interventions of MCI at home and abroad, using semi-structured interviews(interviewed professional health care workers, pension management persons, and MCI patients)to form initial content for handcraft therapy intervention. After two rounds of Delphi expert consultation, the final content of handcraft therapy intervention had been established.3.Using a randomized number table method, participants were divided into two groups. The routine care group was a normal control group, and clinical routine measures were adopted without handcraft intervention;the handcraft group was intervention group for a period of 6 weeks handcraft therapy,4/week,1h/time,4 homework/week.Results:1.Cross-sectional survey results showed that the elderly have a high prevalence of mild cognitive impairment in the elderly, and there are many phenomena such as old age, chronic diseases, and low abilities of daily living. The consumption of coarse grains, housework, physical training, and hobbies are the independent factors affecting the occurrence of MCI in the elderly.2.The results of the construction of the “handcraft” intervention for the MCI patients are as follows: Based on the occupational therapy, the initial module was established. The results of semi-structured interviews showed that MCI patients in nursing homes lack understanding of cognitive function-related diseases and their influencing factors, and they are eager to participate in improving cognitive activities that are suitable for them;pension agency managers recommend that the use of hand-made games attract MCI patients and improve Its enthusiasm;health care experts agree to cultivate interest and hobbies as the starting point, focusing on training MCI patients with brain power. After 2 rounds of expert consultation, the final intervention plan was formed.3.The main results of pre-experimental intervention was that the handcraft intervention program can improve the overall cognitive function, visual space executive function, abstract thinking, language, and delayed recall function of the elderly with MCI in the nursing homes,The effect of daily living ability and depression is not obvious within 6-week-training.Conclusion:1.The prevalence of MCI in the nursing homes residents in Suzhou City is high, and it is necessary to cultivate healthy dietary habits for the elderly, correct unscientific lifestyles, and encourage the development of useful interests and hobbies so as to improve the cognitive function of the elderly.2.The handcraft intervention program for MCI patients established by the elderly care institution has a certain degree of scientificity, and the content of the intervention shows the need and rationalization.3.The handcraft intervention program constructed in this study has certain feasibility. The results of pre-experimental trials show that the program can improve the cognitive function of elderly patients with MCI,and can be used as a reference for future large-sample application research.
