Objective1.Investigating the levels of psychological health and quality of life in end-stage cancer patients.2.Discuss the effect of reading therapy on cancer patients and evaluate the influence of reading therapy on improvement of cancer patients' life quality and negative mood.MethodsThis research included reading therapy intervention and control study and qualitative research.1.Reading therapy intervention was an experimental research.107 cancer patients were chosen from top three hospitals.They were randomly divided into intervention group(53 patients)and control group(54 patients).Regulation collective teaching and lecture of health was conducted on control group,which included simple relax skills and how to deal with psychological problems.Meanwhile,relative books are available to read depended on their interests.Common support therapy and reading therapy were conducted on intervention group,which lasted 5 weeks.Common support therapy can eliminate the sense of strange through listening to patients and building good relationship with them.In addition,it also can eliminate the misgivings and rebuild confidence by persuasion,advice and inspiration.In reading therapy,therapist chose the appropriate books or magazines for cancer patients,which depended on evaluation results of their disease features and interests.In this research,regulation information questionnaire,EORTC QLQ-30 scales and HAMD scales were adopted to evaluate the cancer patients' condition.The statistic methods include descriptive statistical analysis,t-test and Chi-square analysis.2.Qualitative research adopts phenomenology method.Seven cancer patients which were chosen from intervention group were conducted with semi-structured interview.Colaizzi's qualitative documents analysis method was adopted to discuss the influence and change of life quality and psychological health levels of cancer patients.Results1.Intervention StageHamilton Depression Scale shows that there were no significant difference(t=1.656,P=0.107)between control group and intervention group before intervention on HAMD.There were significant difference between control group and intervention group in total score(t=3.017,P=0.003)after intervention.There were significant difference between control group and intervention group in total score(t=4.78,P=0.001)after intervention.There were no significant difference between control group before intervention and control group after intervention in total score(t=1.56,P=0.117).There were no significant difference between control group and intervention group before intervention on EORTC QLQ-30 scales.There were significant difference between control group and intervention group in cognitive function subscale(t=2.294,P=0.017),appetite lost subscale(t=-2.850,P=0.009)and life quality(t=2.534,P=0.011)after intervention.There were significant difference between intervention group before intervention and intervention group after intervention in role function subscale(t=3.819,P=0.003),cognitive function subscale(t=2.357,P=0.018),tired subscale(t=-2.438,P=0.015),pain subscale(t=-2.066,P=0.039),appetite lost subscale(t=-2.171,P=0.030)and life quality(t=2.951,P=0.003).There were significant difference between control group before intervention and control group after intervention in cognitive function subscale(t=-2.294,P=0.017),appetite lost subscale(t=2.880,P=0.009)and life quality(t=-2.543,P=0.011).2.Qualitative Research StageAfter transforming the 7 cancer patients' total interview record,the content was coded to summary the theme.The theme included three primary theme:explore life meaning(aware of life meaning,compare downwards),improve psychological health(attention diversion,self-identification,communication),improve life quality(make fun,trust therapy,positive dealing).Conclusions1.It can be deduced from EORTC QLQ-30 scales and HAMD scales that cancer patients were mostly nervousness and unstable.They had relevant psychological health issues such as anxious and depressive and have many psychological problems like emotional disorders and unhealthy psychological conditions.The score of EORTC QLQ-30 scales and HAMD scales suggests that there are many urgent psychological problems in cancer patients need to be settled.2.Reading therapy can help cancer patients reduce their depression and anxiety.After intervention,they tend to take positive action rather than negative action.In addition,their psychological condition has been improved.3.Reading therapy based on cognitive therapy theory make contribution to improve cancer patients' life quality,which can be a part of their treatment prescription.Besides,it has significant meaning in complete the multimodality therapy of tumor.
