Correction Of Inverted Nipples By Continuous Traction With Urinary Catheter And Kirschner Wire

Objective: To investigate the effective method of continuous traction to correct Inverted Nipple and evaluate its effect.Methods: The devised technique,designed according to the principle of continuous traction and shortening the circumference of the root of the nipple,has been used to correct 34 inverted nipples of 19 patients for 3 to 4 months,with ages ranging from 16 to 56,between December of 2014 and December of2016,from the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China.All patients were followed up for 3 to 18 months after removing the retractor.The nipple height,nipple shape,nipple sensation and erectile function,patient satisfaction,recurrence rate,and complications were included in the assessment.Results: The average height of nipples after corrected were more than8 mm during the follow-up period,the results were excellent in 30 nipples.There was a significant difference in the mean value of nipple height between the grade II and grade III after the correction of nipple inversion 3 months(P<0.05).The total complication rate was 5.26%,only 1 case of inflammation at 3 days postoperatively,but eventually the case recovered and obtained goodshape,and no other complications were encountered.No recurrence of the nipple inversion were found in all the cases,nevertheless,1 nipples lost its projection and became flat in 1 months after tractor removed,which height were less than 5mm.The shape assessment of 30 nipples showed well(88.24%),3 nipples were general(8.82%),1 were bad(2.94%).High degree of patient satisfaction(84.21%)were observed at a mean of almost 9 months follow-up.The sensory and erectile functions of all nipples were completely preservated.Conclusions: 1.Continuous traction with urinary catheter and kirschner wire is a safe and effective method for the treatment of nipple inversion,which is easy to operate,less complications,low recurrence rate,no influence on the nipple sensation and function.2.Applying continuous traction with urinary catheter and kirschner wire,the grade?inverted nipples all achieve good orthopedic effect after 3 months treatment.
