Objectives:To observe the effect of freeze-dried amniotic membrane transplantation on the treatment of pterygium recurrence. Methods:A retrospective analysis of 91 cases with 106 eyes in our hospital from February 2012 to February 2015 was performed. The patients were randomly divided into three groups, including simple excision(group A),pterygium excision combined with amniotic membrane transplantation(group B),and pterygium excision combined with limbal stem cell transplantation(group C).The determination of break-up time of tear film, corneal fluorescein staining, and basic tear secretion before and after the operation were compared to observe the cure rate, the relapse rate, the tear break-up time, staining score and the tear secretion of three groups. Results:Three groups of patients were followed up for 12 months after surgery. In groups B and C,their cure rates were both significantly higher than that of group A,and their recurrence rates were both significantly lower than that of group A,and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).The break-up time of tear film in group B after operation in 1 week and 1 month were both longer than the group of simple excision and the group of limbal stem cell transplantation, and the difference was statistically significant. The staining scores in groups B and C after operation in 1 week were both smaller than that of group A,and there was a significant difference. The comparison of the SIt examination results of each time point before and after the operation was conducted, and there was no significant difference in three groups A,B,and C(P>0.05).Conclusions:Freeze-dried biological amniotic membrane is not only easy to be got and save but also safe and effective. The pterygium excision combined with amniotic membrane transplantation for treatment of pterygium has low recurrence rate and extends the tear break-up time of postoperative pterygium which promotes tear film stability of early recovery. It is an ideal surgical method and is worthy of further widespread application in clinic.
