Objective To observe the efficacy and safety of the chemotherapy regimen based on taxanes and the XELOX regimen as postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for advanced gastric cancer. Methods A total of 109 patients with postoperative gastric cancer were analyzed retrospectively.109 gastric cancer patients undergoing adjuvant chemotherapy in the oncology department of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of Soochow University from 2012 to 2013 were divided into group A(n = 54)and group B(n = 55).Group A was administered with the chemotherapy based on taxanes, and group B was administered with XELOX regimen. The 1-year and 3-year disease free survival(DFS),1-year and 3-year overall survival(OS),adverse reactions(including leukocytopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, liverdamage, peripheral neuropathy,hand-foot syndrome)the sites of recurrence and metastasis of two groups were observed and compared.ResultsNo statistical differences were observed in 1-year and 3-year DFS and OS between two groups(p?0.05).The primary adverse reactions were bone marrow suppression and gastrointestinal reaction such as nausea and vomiting for two groups. The incidence of ?~?adverse reactions diarrhea,hand-foot syndrome and peripheral neuropathy in group A was lower than group B,and statistical differences were found between two groups(p <0.05).But ?~?adverse reactions of other side effects were observed no statistical differences(p?0.05).The most common sites of recurrence and metastasis in two groups were both all celiac lymph nodes, but no statistical differences were found(P=0.446,p>0.05).The incidence of peritoneal metastasis in group A was lower than group B,and statistical differences were found(P=0.043,p<0.05).There were less patients in lung metastasis, bone metastasis, brain metastasis, and no statistical differences were found(p>0.05).Conclusion The chemotherapy regimen based on taxanes shows a therapeutic effect similar to the XELOX regimen on patients with advanced gastric cancer. The adverse reactions of two groups are well tolerated. And the chemotherapy regimen based on taxanes has good application prospect in postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for gastric cancer, but still needs to be verified by large-scale clinical trials.
