Objectives:This study aims to examine the secular trend of metabolic indices in continuous five years, and to identify the effects of metabolic risk factors on fatty liver among an IT worker population in Hangzhou,Zhejiang Province.Based on the findings of this study,we aim to demonstrate strategies to prevent and control metabolic risks among IT workers, and to reduce the burden of future chronic diseases and improve their overall health.Study design:This study is a combination of cross-sectional study and cohort study with repeated measurements. Methods:A group of 823 young IT workers(19?40 years old)who participated physical examination in the same institution for 5 continuous years(2011-2015)were included in this study. The repeated measurements of physical examination data were included in the analysis, including height, weight, blood pressure, biochemical bioassays, and B-ultrasonography tests etc.Secular trend of metabolic indices were summarized and illustrated for whole sample and subgroup analysis by age and gender.Panel data analyses using logistic regression models were performed to identify the metabolic risk factors of fatty liver. Results:The metabolic indices became worsen and the prevalence of fatty liver increased dramatically over 5 years. The prevalence of fatty liver in this study sample was significant higher than general population in the same area.In both cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis, metabolic risk factors including body mass index, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein and high density lipoprotein, were associated with risk of fatty liver, and the effects within the individual explained more variance of fatty liver than those within the population. Conclusion:of the young IT workers(19?40 years old)were suffering poor health conditions, and the conditions kept deteriorating over a short term.Appropriate health promotion efforts should be placed on this population,i.e.improving life styles, monitoring metabolic risks, and improving working conditions.
