AIM:To explore risk factors for hypothermia during general anesthsia and major abdominal surgery.METHODS : 220 patients undergoing selected general anesthesia surgeries, aged between 33-83,and were allocated into group hypothermia and group no-hypothermia according to occurrence of hypothermia.Data recorded and compared between the two groups include general clinical information, anesthesia method and time taken, surgery scale, total fluid infusion, blood transfusion, blood loss and intraoperative warming strategy.Logistic regression analysis was used to the factors found with statistic difference between the two groups,to explore the risk factors for hypothermia.Afterwards,60 patients going through elected major abdominal surgeries were abstracted from data above, and analized with the same method, risk factors were identified for abdominal major surgery.RESULTS: In the 220 patients undergoing general anesthesia,88(40%)were found hypothermia. All patients received passive warming,a few with positive warming.High BMI,positive warming are protective factors for intraoperative hypothermia.Undergoing major surgery(OR=1.92,P<0.05),receiving over 1L unwarmed infusion(OR=2.77,P<0.05),anesthesia duration over 2h(OR=3.27,P<0.05),are risk factors for intraoperative hypothermia.Among the 60 patients undergoing major abdominal surgery,37 patients were found hypothermia, the occurrence rate was 61.7%.The age,BMI,anesthesia time taken, total fluid infusion in the 2 groups were found with statistic differences(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis shows that, anesthesia time taken(OR= 0.096,P<0.05)and BMI<22 kg/m2(OR=0.103,P<0.05)are independent risk factors for intraoperative hypothermia in patients going through major abdominal surgeries.CONCLUSION: Major surgery, over 1L un-warmed infusion, anesthesia duration over 2h,are the risk factors for intraoperative hypothermia in patients undergoing general anesthesia.Patients going through major abdominal surgery have higher occurrence of hypothermia,BMI<24 kg/m2,anesthesia duration?3h are independent risk factors for them.
