Objective Through the statistic analysis of 116 cases of viral encephalitis patients,we compare the difference of clinical data between viral encephalitis patients with epilepsy group and without epilepsy group to summarize the characteristics of patients with epilepsy, and found the evidence of the prevention, early diagnosis, and the treatment for viral encephalitis with epilepsy. Methods We retrospectively study 116 cases of viral encephalitis patients admitted to the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University and the Cardia-cerebrovascular Disease Hospital of Ningxia Medical University from January 2011 to December 2016.There are 39 cases with epilepsy and 77 case without epilepsy.Through surfing the hospital electronic medical record system,we collect their clinical data including general situation, medical history, physical examination,Clinical feature, laboratory examination, cerebrospinal fluid examination, imageological examination, electroencephalography, treatment and discharge conditions. We use SPSS to further analysis and statistics. Results Medical history: There are significant differences between the two groups in disturbance of consciousness, cognitive dysfunction, and admission conditions(P<0.05).No significant differences are found in other clinical manifestations.Auxiliary examination: Patients with epilepsy have a higher level of white blood cell counts, neutrophils and mononuclear cells(P<0.05),however,a lower level of potassium. In cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)examination, the patients with epilepsy have higher glucose content(P<0.05).Brain imaging examination shows that the abnormal rate in patients with epilepsy are higher(P<0.05),and EEG examination shows that patients with epilepsy are more severe(P<0.05).No significant differences are found in other auxiliary examination.Treatment and prognosis: All the patients are given antiviral treatment.28 cases of the patients with epilepsy(71.79%)are used of antiepileptic drugs. The prognosis of patients with epilepsy is poor(P<0.05).Conclusions 1.Viral encephalitis with epilepsy is common and accounts for 33.62%.The main form is generalized seizures(64.10%),any age can be.2.Patients with epilepsy have higher abnormal rate of brain imaging and higher degree of EEG abnormalities than patients without epilepsy.3.Epileptic seizure aggravate conscious disturbance and cognitive impairment. The prognosis of patients with epilepsy is poor.
