Objective To investigate the prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency and its association with metabolic risk factors among adult population in Gansu,China. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study among seven cities of adult population living in Gansu,11,300 healthy people(18-79 y)from June 2014 to December 2015.A questionnaire was used to assess general characteristics and lifestyle habits.Serum 25(OH)D and associated metabolic parameters were detected by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay technology.Areal bone mineral density(BMD)was measured at the forearms using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DXA: Osteometer Medi Tech,American). Results 1.There were 11 157(male 4 740,female 6 417)healthy adult completed this study.2.The serum 25(OH)D level was 13.8(11.0,17.8)ng/m L among all individuals.3.The prevalence of severe deficiency(< 10 ng/m L),deficiency(10-20 ng/m L),insufficiency(20-30 ng/m L),sufficiency(? 30 ng/m L)among the adult was 17.3 %,64.6 %,11.8 % and 6.3 % respectively.4.The significant predictors of vitamin D deficiency included younger age and female sex(P < 0.05),whereas sun exposure, physical activity and calcium supplementation were protective(P < 0.05).5.Serum 25(OH)D was inversely associated with PTH(r =-0.279,P < 0.001)and positively associated with serum Ca(r = 0.239,P < 0.001),serum P(r = 0.090,P = 0.018),LDL(r = 0.100,P = 0.008)and BMI(r = 0.093,P = 0.014).There was not significantly associated with 25(OH)D concentrations and BMD or metabolic disorder(P > 0.05).Conclusions Vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent among adult population in Gansu, northwestern of China, and is largely attributed to younger age, female sex.Active and comprehensive measures should be taken to intervene.
