Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of PRR11 and Ki-67 in rectal cancer and to study the relationship between the expression level and the clinicopathological features of rectal cancer. And to further explore the correlation between the expression level and the prognosis of patients with rectal cancer. Methods: Retrospective analysis of 81 patients who were diagnosed with rectal cancer in the department of general surgery in our hospital(Fuzhou General Hospital)from January 2008 to January 2011 as an observation group. In addition,30 cases of normal mucosa tissue were collected as control group. The expression of PRR11 and Ki-67 protein was detected by immunohistochemical staining. The prognosis of patients was followed up.And then analyzed the relationship between the expression level of PRR11 and Ki-67 protein and the clinicopathological features and the correlation with the prognosis of postoperative patientsResults: The results showed that the positive expression rates of PRR11 and Ki-67 in rectal cancer were 51.8% and 53.1%,the expression rates were 23.3% and 13.3% in the adjacent mucosa, which were significantly higher than those in the adjacent mucosa tissues, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P <0.05).There was no significant correlation between the expression of PRR11 and sex?age?smoking?vascular invasion?tumor differentiation and depth of tumor invasion in patients with rectal cancer(P> 0.05),but there was a significant correlation between the TNM stage(P <0.05).The expression of Ki-67 protein was not significantly correlated with sex?age?smoking and vascular infiltration in patients with rectal cancer(P> 0.05),but there was a significant correlation between TNM stage, tumor differentiation degree and depth of tumor invasion(P <0.05).The expression of PRR11 and Ki-67 in cancer tissues was analyzed by grade correlation analysis, found no correlation between the two groups(r=0.183,P=0.101).Log-rank detection and KM survival curve showed that the high expression of PRR11 and Ki-67 protein was closely related to the low overall survival rate(P <0.05).Univariate analysis showed that the high expression of PRR11 and Ki-67 protein, the depth of tumor invasion and TNM staging were the influencing factors of poor prognosis of rectal cancer, however, the Multivariate analysis showed that the high expression of PRR11 and Ki-67 protein and the TNM stage of tumor were independent risk factors for the poor prognosis of rectal cancer patients.Therefore,PRR11 and Ki-67 protein can be used as a risk factor for poor prognosis in patients with rectal cancer. Conclusion:The expression of Ki-67 and PRR11 protein was associated with TNM staging of rectal cancer and was involved in the development and progression of rectal cancer. The high expression of Ki-67 protein and PRR11 protein is closely related to the low overall survival rate, which is an independent risk factor for poor prognosis of rectal cancer patients. The combined detection of its expression rate has a clinical significance in judging prognosis.
