Aim:To have a discussion on the relationship between the characteristics of onset, the sleep structure and the cognitive function of adult epilepsy patients.Objects and methods:Choosing 70 epilepsy patients ageing from 14-67 who had their treatment in Fujian Medientcal University Affiliated Union Hospital from February 2015 to February 2017 and 20 healthy people as their control group.Using sleep multiple mapping and clinical cognitive function test scale to gain the quantitative data between the patient's sleep quality and the recognition. And then use statistical method to search for the relationship between them.Outcome:Demographic information:There was no significant difference in sex,age and education between the epilepsy group and the healthy control groupThe relationship between the onset and sleeping and memory quotient:The comparison between theepilepsy group and the control group. The comparison between the epilepsy group and the healthy control group. And the results were as follows:the epilepsy group extended the NREM sleeping period. Also,it shortened the NREM 111-IV.The efficiency of sleep decreased, the value of memory was low,the difference was statistically significant. The relationship between the onset frequency and sleeping and memory quotient: Compared with the low onset frequency group, the group with high onset frequency's sleep efficiency decreased, their memory value was low,the quality of sleep was poor. Also, the REM time and the percentage of sleep were decreased. The difference was statistically significant. The relationship between the onset form and sleeping condition and memory quotient:Divided patients into two groups, one was whose who suffered full-blown episodes and the other was those who were noncompliant episodes.Compared with the latter one, those who suffered full-blown episodes had a higher memory quotient, also they had a higher sleeping proficienct and had a longer REM time. The relationship between the onset feature and the sleeping and the Memory Quotient:whether the epilepsy onset was frequent, whether the epilepsy was a comprehensive one,REM duration, sleep efficiency were all independent predictors for memory quotient. The memory quotient was negatively correlated with the frequency of onset of epilepsy, and it was positively correlated with the duration of REM and sleep efficiency. Conclusion: There was a certain relationship between the characteristics of adult epilepsy and cognitive status and sleep.Compared with normal people, epilepsy patients were prone to abnormal sleep structure, and the cognitive dysfunction and sleep disorders might have a certain kind of relationship.Patients who suffered comprehensive onset 's sleep and cognition were better than those partial seizures, for they had a higher REM and sleep efficiency.Compared with those who had a less frequent onset, patients with higher frequency of onset had a lower sleeping condition, and they were prone to have sleep disorder and cognitive impairment.
