Objective:To investigate the expression features of interleukin-6(IL-6)and suppressor of cytokine signaling-1(SOCS1)and discuss the relationship and clinical significance of them in ovarian carcinoma through detecting the expression of IL-6 and SOCS1 in different ovarian tissues. Methods:The expression levels of IL-6 and SOCS1 in 105 cases of epithelial ovarian cancers,40 cases of benign ovarian tumors and 30 cases of normal ovarian tissues were examined by two-step immunohistochemical staining, and then analyze their expression levels with SPSS software, also the correlation of them in epithelial ovarian cancer and the relationship between their expression and the clinicopathological characteristics of ovarian cancer.Results:IL-6 was mainly expressed in the cytoplasm and intercellular matrix of epithelial ovarian cancer tissues, and SOCS1 was mainly expressed in the cytoplasm and nucleus of epithelial ovarian cancer tissues. They all expressed low in benign ovarian tumors and normal ovarian tissues. The positive rate of IL-6 expression in epithelial ovarian cancers, benign ovarian tumors and normal ovarian tissues were 71.43%,22.50%,16.70%respectively,which was significantly higher in the epithelial ovarian cancers than that of benign ovarian tumors and normal ovarian tissues(P=0.00),there is no statistically significance between benign ovarian tumors and normal ovarian tissues(P>0.05).The positive rate of SOCS1 expression in epithelial ovarian cancers, benign ovarian tumors and normal ovarian tissues were 37.14%,15.00%,13.30% respectively, which was higher in the epithelial ovarian cancers than that of benign ovarian tumors and normal ovarian tissues(P=0.004),there is also no statistically significance between benign ovarian tumors and normal ovarian tissues(P>0.05).The expression of IL-6 was related to histologic grade,FIGO stage, ascites and lymphatic metastasis(P<0.05),but had no relation with pathological type and patients' age(P >0.05);the expression of SOCS1 wasrelated to histologic grade(P<0.05),but had no relation with FIGO stage, ascites, pathological type, patients' age and lymphatic metastasis(P>0.05).The expression of IL-6 in epithelial ovarian cancers was positively correlated with SOCS1(r=0.297,P<0.05).Conclusion:(1)The expression levels of IL-6 and SOCS1 were both low in benign ovarian tumors and normal ovarian tissues, but high in epithelial ovarian cancer tissues, and their expressions were positively related to each other.Which indicated that IL-6 and SOCS1 were closely related to epithelial ovarian cancer, and may play an important role in the occurrence and development of ovarian cancer.(2)The expression of IL-6 was related to multiple clinicopathological characteristics of ovarian cancer and was closely related to disease severity. So it could be regarded as an important factor to predict ovarian cancer patients' prognosis.(3)As negative regulatory factor of IL-6,the expression of SOCS1 was lower than that of IL-6 in epithelial ovarian cancer tissues. The mechanism was still unclear, but this provides a new clue for discovering the developing of ovarian cancer and is helpful for seeking new therapy of this disease.
