| Objectives To explore the correlation of the office,visit-to-visit and 24-hour ambulatory systolic blood pressure(SBP)with carotid intima-media thickness(CIMT)in the elderly.Methods A total of 2814 participants was selected with random sampling from the Kailuan company employees who is equal or more than 60 years old and retired.Relevant information including health questionare,anthropometric and biochemical indicators is collected,and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and carotid ultrasound were measured.Finally,1423 participants were used to analyse correlation between different SBPs and CIMT.According to the tertile of different SBPs,the participants were divided into three groups to compare CIMT among groups.Stepwise regression analysis was utilized to analyze correlation between the office,visit-to-visit,24-hour ambulatory SBPs and CIMT,respectively and simultaneously.Results 1 The 1423 participants,including 940 males and 383 females,have an average age of 67.11±5.85 years old and CIMT of 0.92±0.18 mm.2 With the levels of different SBPs inceasing,CIMT values thickened significantly.3 After adjusting for mixed factors,stepwise regression analysis displayed that the office,visit-to-visit,24-hour,day,night SBP correlated with CIMT positively and linearly,and with the SBPs increasing for 10 mm Hg,CIMT increased 0.013 mm,0.022 mm,0.023 mm,0.022 mm,0.019 mm,respectively.After removing 24-hour SBP from adjusted confounders and adding others SBPs,visit-tovisit and day SBP entered the linear regression equation,and their corresponding β were0.151,0.104.Conclusions Office,visit-to-visit,24-hour,day and night SBP associate with CIMT,respectively.The associations are stronger between visit-to-visit SBP,day SBP and CIMT than office SBP,and visit-to-visit SBP is stronger than day SBP. |
