Objective:To detect the relationship between sarcopenia and bone mineral density(BMD).Investigate the occurrence of sarcopenia in men patients aged over 55 years with type 2 diabetes mellitus, developing healthy living habits and reducing the prevalence of sarcopenia to achieve the secondary prevention and early intervention of sarcopenia in elderly people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods:All 119 men with T2DM,aged 55-87years,were selected from the department of endocrinology of Xuanwu hospital in May 2016 to December 2016.The BMD(g/cm2)of lumbar spine and hip,the appendicular skeletal muscle mass(ASM),appendicular fat mass(AFM),appendicular skeletal muscle mass index(ASMI),were detected by dual energy X-ray bone density measurement. The muscle strength was evaluated by grip strength. The physical function was assessed by 6 meters walking test.Low ASMI was defined using the definition of sarcopenia first proposed by Baumgartner et al.The correlation between ASM,AFM,ASMI,muscle strength and BMD was analyzed by linear correlation analysis methods, and the correlation between sarcopenia and osteoporosis was analyzed by logistic regression analysis.Results:1.The rate of sarcopenia in men aged over 55 years in Beijing area was 28.57%.The BMD of the men in ASMI<7.26 kg/m2 group was significantly lower than that in ASMI>7.26 kg/m2 group.2.A positive correlation was found between BMD and low skeletal muscle mass(RASM<6.07 kg/m2).The risk of osteoporosis significantly increased 3.067-fold in sarcopenia subjects than non-sarcopenia subjects(OR=3.067,95%Cl:1.023?9.190,P=0.045).Conclusion:Beijing area, the sarcopenia of men aged over 55 years with T2DM is closely related to osteoporosis.Middle-aged and elderly men with T2DM should be early screened to realize in-time prevention and intervention.
