Objective: To investigate the inspiratory muscle strength of patients with silicosis and its relationship with lung function and quality of life, and to evaluate the application value of inspiratory muscle strength in function assessment of patients with silicosis.Method: The study enrolled 50 patients with silicosis in General Hospital of Fengcheng Mining Bureau from May 2016 to August 2016.The Powerbreathe K5 trainer was used to measure the maximum inspiratory pressure(PImax)and peak inspiratory flow rate(PIF),and the right diaphragmatic excursion was observed by using Motion-mode ultrasonography. The main variables of pulmonary function including FVC,FEV1.0 and FEV1.0/FVC.The St George's Respiratory Questionnaire(SGRQ)and 36-item Short-Form Health Survey(SF-36)scale were used to evaluate the QOL of patients with silicosis. Results: The inspiratory muscle strength and lung function of the silicotic patients were lower than predicted values, the average values of PImax was(49.76±22.27)cmH2O,accounting for(47.39±18.90)% of its predicted values, while the mean values of FVC and FEV1.0 were(2.58±0.89)and(1.75±0.74)L,accounting for(69.13±17.42)% and(61.76 ±19.17)% of their predicted values respectively, and the average value of FEV1.0/FVC was(66.23±12.01)%;The comparison of inspiratory muscle strength in patients with different stages of silicosis: PImax,PIF and diaphragm excursion showed "? period <?period <?period" trend, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);There were significantly correlated between inspiratory muscle strength with lung function and quality of life among patients with silicosis(P <0.05).Conclusion:1.The inspiratory muscle strength of silicotic patients were decreased. With the progress of the disease, the inspiratory muscle strength of patiens with silicosis gradually decreases.2.There were significantly and positively correlated between inspiratory muscle strength with lung function among patients with silicosis.3.There were positively correlated between inspiratory muscle strength with quality of life among patients with silicosis.
