Objective:To assess of the effect of transanal tube for prevention of anastomotic leakage after low anterior resection.Method:Papers in Medline,EMBASE,the Cochrane library,WanFang and China Nation-al Knowledge Infrastructure databases and other databases from September2010 and September 2015 were searched for transanal tube for prevention of anastomotic leakage after low anterior resectionl.Inclusion criteria and quality evaluation were applied to select data in line with the meta-analysis.Results:A total of 275 studies were identified, after repeated screening,9 studies(n=2040)were eligible for the meta-analysis.The studies included 2041 cases of low rectal cancer, including 846 cases with transanal tube,30 cases with anastomotic leakage,1195 cases with no transanal tube and 128 cases with anastomotic leakage occurred after operation.By meta-analysis,the anastomotic leakage rate(30/846)in transanal tube group was 0.33 times that with no tube group(128/1195).There was significant difference in anastomotic leakage rate between the two groups(OR=0.32,95% CI: 0.21,0.48 and P < 0.00001).the reoperation rate(1.01%)with anastomotic leakage occurred after operation in transanal tube group was 0.15 times that with no tube group(6.82%).There was significant difference in anastomotic leakage rate between the two groups(OR=0.16,95% CI: 0.07,0.35 and P < 0.00001).Conclusions:The transanal tube can be used to reduce the incidence of anastomotic leakage after low anterior resection. In addition, the transanal tube can be used to reduce the incidence of reoperation rate with anastomotic leakage occurred after operation.
