Objective:Pancreatic surgery is the only way to cure pancreatic cancer, but the life expectation is still limited. Therefore quality of life(QoL)is the same important as life expectancy. However, the domestic researches on quality of life in patients after pancreatic surgery are almost blank. Our center took the lead in the domestic to prospectively study the short-term quality of life changes in patients after pancreatic surgery. Methods:Between January 2016 and October2016,patients under pancreatic resection were included.QoL was measured on patients who underwent pancreatic resection at the Nanjing General Hospital Of Nanjing Military Command before resection, and 1,2,3,6month after surgery.Measures consisted of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer(EORTC)core questionnaire(QLQ-C30)and the EORTC pancreatic cancer-specific module(QLQ-PAN26).Results:Betwen January 2016 and October 2016,a total of 89 patients were perfomed pancrea resection in Nanjing General Hospital Of Nanjing Military Command and 72 patients completed all of QoL questionnairs. All domains showed a significant deterioration after 1 month. The scores of role functioning, emotional functioning and Cognitive functioning were lower than preoperative at 3 month. All domains demonstrated recovery to preoperative values or better at 6months,nearly 80%of patients return to the preoperative baseline. The scores of Global health domain were higher than preoperative baseline at 1,2,3,6 month.Symptom scores revealed a deterioration in eating-related items, appetite loss, constipation fatigue, cachexia after 1 month. But hepatic symptoms, ascites improved after surgery, and the scores revealed a significantly improvement compared preoperative baseline. The scores of pain(EORTC QLQ-C30)was lower than baseline at 3,6 month, and pain(EORTC QLQ-PAN26)wa bentter than baseline at 3 month. Conclusion:QoL after pancreatic surgery decreased in the early postoperative phase, but then gradually improved.Recovery of QoL took up to 3-6 months after the operation, some domains or even better than preoperative.
