ObjectivesTo explore the effects of nursing intervention based-on protection motivation theory on community elderly, and evaluate the results from the elderly's cardiovascular disease prevention knowledge, health behavior success rate, cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular health behaviors and factors.Methods92 participants who lived in Nanguan Community Health Service Center of Zhengzhou City were selected as subjects.According to the community,92 participants were divided into intervention group(46 cases)and control group(46 cases). The intervention group received nursing intervention based on protection motivation theory for six months. The content of nursing intervention based on protection motivation theory included community activities, family visits, health promotion sharing. The control group received routine nursing intervention, including health education lectures and telephone counseling. To evaluate the efficacy of nursing intervention based on protection motivation theory on cardiovascular health of the community elderly, the cardiovascular disease prevention knowledge, the health behavior rate of reaching the ideal standard, the physiological and biochemical indexes, the cardiovascular health behaviors and factors were assessed at baseline,at 3 month,at 6 month. The statistical methods included descriptive statistical analysis,chi-square test, independent sample t test,Mann-Whitney U rank sum test, repeated measurement variance analysis, generalized estimation equation.Results85 participants finished the whole data collecting process,43 cases in intervention group,42 cases in control group.1.Comparison of the outcomes in two groups:(1)The total score of cardiovascular disease prevention knowledge, stroke warning symptoms, coronary heart attack symptoms, diet and exercise dimension score in intervention group were higher than that in control group, the difference was statistically significant.(P<0.05).(2)The rate of low salt diet and regular exercise in the intervention group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference between the two groups in the rate of smoking cessation(P<0.05).(3)The decreases of body mass index, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and total cholesterol in the intervention group were significantly higher than that in the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).(4)The scores of cardiovascular health and health behavior in the intervention group were significantly higher than those in the control group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).2.Comparison of the intervention group's outcomes before and after intervention:(1)After the intervention, intervention group's cardiovascular disease prevention knowledge score, stroke warning symptoms score, coronary heart attack symptoms score and diet and exercise score were significantly higher than before(P<0.05).(2)After the intervention, intervention group's body mass index, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and total cholesterol were significantly lower than before(P<0.05).(3)After the intervention, intervention group's cardiovascular health score and cardiovascular health behavior score were higher than before(P<0.05).ConclusionNursing intervention based on the protection motivation theory is easy to accept and operate. It can significantly improve cardiovascular disease prevention knowledge level, promote healthy behavior, reduce body mass index, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and total cholesterol, improve the cardiovascular health.
