The availability and high efficiency of books,especially psychology books,play a significant role in the application of the latest psychological researches to individuals`mental-health improvements nowadays.And bibliotherapy is a meaningful attempt.But we find that the lack of a thorough study of theoretical system of bibliotherapy leads to chaos and misunderstanding about it's effect.Despite of the high incidence of depression in modern society,bibliotherapy hasn't reached its fullest potential.Through reviewing the cognitive psychology theories of bibliotherapy systematically,the author has drawn a conclusion that traditional cognitive theory and new positive psychotherapy have logical inner consistency,which means that the dynamic integration of these two theories is a more advisable choice in the future practices and studies.Inspired by the psychological counseling practices,we find that insight,the acquisition of mental coping skills and language are all elements crucial to the function of bibliotherapy.The author also has an discussion for two controversial problems in the application of bibliotherapy for depression.The process of bibliotherapy needs to be optimized and personalized to avoid “one size fits all”.And the public are supposed to emphasize the importance of taking concrete actions after psychological reading.
