Objective:Skin sagging has been the significant sign of facial skin aging.Nonablative skin tightening technologies offer the prospect of skin sagging with minimal downtime but lack of efficacy.Surgical skin tightening continues to provide a greater degree of improvement than nonablative tightening, but limiting factor are postprocedure healing time and complications. The purpose of this study is to assess both the safety and efficacy of non-invasive focused intense ultrasound treatment. Methods:Subjects treated with an focused intense ultrasound tightening devices to the forehead, cheeks, and submental region using the following probes:4MHz,4.5-mm focal depth;and 7MHz 3.0-mm focal depth.Stanardized photographs of front and side views were obtained pretreatment, immediately posttreatment, and 90 days, and rating scales of pain, adverse events, physical findings were also completed as well.Primary outcome measure was detection of improvement in paired comparison of pretreatment and posttreatment(day 90)photographs by 3 masked physician assessors, cosmetic dermatologists, and plastic surgeons who were not authors.Secondary outcomes measure was patient satisfaction as measured by questionnaire. Results:A total of 15 subjects were enrolled.Median age was 40 years old(range 35-50).On the primary outcome measure,12 of 15 subjects8(80?)were judged by the 3 clinician raters to show clinically significant brow-lift 90 days after treatment.Mean value of average change in eyebrow height as assessed by measurement of photographs at 90 days was 1.4mm.Most treated individuals responded commonly with accompanying transitory mild erythema and edema. Conclusions:Ultrasound appears to be a safe and effective modality for facial skin lifting.
