Background:Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures(OVCF)is senile Osteo-porosis(OP)and one of the most serious complications of OP patients,usually without external or minor trauma can occur under the action of fracture.If we take the tradi-tional conservative treatment(long-term bed rest,oral medication,pain,waist brace fixation,etc,the patient will stay in bed for a long time,endure pain,the quality of life will be significantly reduced.In addition,the effect of conservative treatment is not guaranteed,there will be severe kyphosis,intractable pain(Kummell disease)and other symptoms;and bedridden endure pain at the same time,may lead to many com-plications,morbidity and mortality also increased[1].Now,the invention and applica-tion of Percutaneous Kyphoplasty(PKP)provides a new method for the treatment of OVCF.Objective:To introduce percutaneous kyphoplasty,respectively cmpare the changes in patients with PKP in VAS,ODI,Cobb angle,as well as vertebral body height before operation,3 days after operation,1 years after operation,and 2 years after operation.To observe the medium short term effect of percutaneous kyphoplasty in the treatment of osteoporotic compression fractures.Method:In this study,we selected 25 patients with vertebral compression fractures treated in our hospital from August 2014 to February 2015.There were 5 male pa-tients,aged from 66-77 years old,with a mean age of 68 years;and there were 20 fe-male patients,aged from 56-81 years old,with a mean age of 66.5 years.There were 21 cases of single vertebral fracture,3 cases of two vertebral fractures,1 case of three vertebral fractures,with a total of 30 injured vertebrals.All the patients had different degrees of pain before operation.During the hospitalization,bilateral pedicle puncture were used for PKP operation.Follow up for at least 2 years after operation,respctive-1y measured and recorded the VAS,ODI scores,height of anterior vertebral body on X-ray,and Cobb angle of before surgery and 3 days after operation,1 years and 2 years after surgery.Results:All patients were successfully completed the PKP surgery,3 vertebral bone cement leakage,leakage rate was 10%,and followed up at least to 2 years after suige-ry,all patients had no clinical symptoms related to bone cement leakage,no refracture or adjacent vertebral fractures.1.VAS and ODI score:Pains of all patients were significantly relieved after opera-tion,The preoperative VAS score was(8.23 ± 1.02),and the VAS score was(2.68 ±0.75)3days after surgery,and the T value was 21.92,the difference was significant(P<0.05);the VAS score was(2.33 ± 0.34)1 year after surgery,and the T value was 2.12,the difference was significant(P<0.05);the VAS score was(2.45 ±0.32)2 years after surgery,and the T value was-1.85,the difference has no significance(P>0.05).The preoperative ODI score was(48.37±8.22),and the ODI score was(31.84±7.05)3days after surgery,and the T value was 7.6,the difference was significant(P<0.05);the ODI score was(22.36 ±6.83)1 year after surgery,the T value was 4.83,and the difference was significant(P<0.05);the ODI score was(23.54±6.47)year after sur-gery,the T value was-0.63,the difference has no significance(P>0.05).Therefore,after PKP,the pain symptoms were relieved immediately,and the ability to move away from the bed was also improved.And in the mid-term observation,PKP can effectively relieve the pain symptoms,which is helpful to the improvement of the activities.2.Correction of anterior vertebral height and Cobb angle:The anterior height of vertebral body of preoperative and 3 days after surgery(18.95±0.87)mm,(26.11 ±0.91)mm,and T value was-28.44,and the difference was significant(P<0.05);The height of anterior vertebral body 1 year after surgery was(25.37 ± 1.26)mm,and the T value was 2.38,and the difference was significant(P<0.05);The height of anterior ver-tebral body 2 years after surgery was(24.58 ± 1.02)mm,and the T value was 1.54,the difference has no significance(P>0.05);The preoperative and postoperative 3 days of kyphosis Cobb angle were(26.72±2.35)°,and(19.61 ± 1.96)°,the T value was 11.62,the difference was significant(P<0.05);The Cobb angle lyear after surgery was(18.34± 1.10)°,and the T value was 2.83,the difference was significant(P<0.05);The Cobb angle 2 years postoperative was(18.92 ± 1.45)°,and the T value was-1.59,the difference has no significance(P>0.05).Therefore,PKP surgery can correct and maintain anterior vertebral body height and kyphosis,medium term efficacy is satis-factory.Conclusion:PKP for the treatment of OVCF can immediately relieve the pain and improve the patients' ambulation ability,effectively restore and maintain vertebral height,correct kyphosis,avoid long-term bed complications,significantly improve the quality of life of patients,and the occurrence of adjacent vertebral fractures and com-plications such as leakage the low rate,medium short term curative effect is reliable.
