| Backgrounds and Objective: Osteoporosis is one of the common health problems with a progressive prevalence. The characteristic of osteoporosis is the decrease of bone mass, destruction of bone microstructure, reduction of the bone strength, and result in susceptibility to fracture. There was a misunderstanding on osteoporosis that it was an inevitable degeneration progress rather than a disease,so no monitoring or treatment was needed for osteoporosis.Recently,as the development of medicine, fragility fracture, the severe complication due to osteoporosis has made people recognize the disease.Osteoporosis is more prevalent in women than men, especially mid-old age women.Osteoporosis is presented as fractures in hip and spine, and the influence of the fracture reduces life quality, causes d isablement, depression, anxiety or other psychological illness.Aging has become an un ignorable problem in China. In accordance with the recent estimation, there are 200 million people the world with osteoporosis. Thus, access to diagnosis and adequate therapy for osteoporosis is a main challenge worldwide.Osteoporotic compression fracture is the most common complication of osteoporosis, and impacts normal daily life of old people. The usual treatment for the fracture is conservative treatment and surgical treatment, which including Vertebral open reduction internal fixation and PKP.The objective of the study is to evaluate the safety and analyze the clinical efficacy of percutaneous kyphoplasty for osteoporotic thoracolumbar vertebral compression fracture. Methods: Between 2015 and 2017,39 patients,54 centrum, with osteoporotic thoracolumbar vertebral compression fracture and undertook PKP surgery were in the observational study.Pre and post-operative X ray, visual analogue pain scale(VAS),and Oswesty disablility index(ODI),and Cobb’s angle to evaluate the changes of height of anterior edge of centrum, pain release, recovery of daily life and efficiency of surgery. Results: All patients were successfully operate. The average of VAS and ODI 1 day before surgery were 8.18±1.04 and 80.33±11.40 respectively, and the average of VAS and ODI 3 day after surgery were2.41±0.88 and 29.49±5.81.There was a statistic differences on the two score before and after surgery.(P<0.05)So was the cobb’s angle.Bone cement leakage occurred in nine patient, but without aggra-vating pain and nerve syndrome in lower limbs. Conclusion: PKP is a minimally invasive.safe and effective surgical technique for thoracolumbar vertebral compression fracture, providing immediate clinical pain relief and altitude recovery of vertebral body, improvement of daily life, and correction of Posterior kyphosis of the vertebral body. |
