ObjectivePH(Primary hyperhidrosis)is a disease, without obvious organic causes characterized by bilateral excessive sweating in some parts of the body, such as the palms, soles, axillae, head and face.According to localizaion of the disease,PH can be divided into primary palmar hyperhidrosis, primary cranimofacial hyperhidrosis, primary axillary hyperhidrosis, etc. As yet, some researches has been carried out to acquire epidemioologic data on the prevalence of hyperhidrosis.A nationwide PPH(primary palmar hyperhidrosis)survey aimed at adolescent was performed, including all seven geological areas of Mainland China. As well,we implement this research work to investigate the prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of primary palmar hyperhidrosis among adolescents in Yangzhou.Methods1.Before the survey respondents were selected, the paramedics were trained with the diagnostic standards and an questionnaire was developed refered to other researches.2.We implement a pre-survey to assess the feasibility and reliability of the whole investigation process.3.All students in a portion of classes were randomly cluster sampled from two colleges and two middle schools in Yangzhou. Each student was informed about the purpose, the significance and the way to fill out the questionnaires of the survey.Informed consent was obtained from each one.Questionnaires were then handed out to students, and the students were asked to complete the questionnaires in school. The questionnaires were collected and we screened out the suspected cases from all students. The respondents suspected on the basis of diagnostic criteria were included in the next step for further assessment.Professionals, trained in unison, conducted the assessment through face-to-face interviews with each suspected case. The doctors performed clinical diagnosis using the recommended standard,in addition to creating a cutoff between severity scale of mild and moderate, and between severity scale of moderate and severe after excluding secondary causes of excessive sweating.4.Combined with questionnaire survey data, diagnosis and statistics,we investigated the prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of primary palmar hyperhidrosis, and then acquired the experiment conclusion.ResultsIn our survey 107 patients,of 3504 students were involved, were diagnosed with PPH through diagnostic criteria. The prevalence rate of primary palmar hyperhidrosis among adolescents in Yangzhou is 3.05%.The prevalence in male adolescents was higher than the prevalence in female adolescent(3.87 vs.2.39%).There was 905 junior high school students,785 high school students,1927 college students and the prevalence rate was 3.00%,2.97%,3.12%respectively.There was no significant different in each school stage. The peak age of onset is 10-20 years.Although the prevalence of male was higher, there were more women affected by severe PPH than man.Except palm, excessive sweating often occurred on other anatomic sites. The most frequent sweating sites were axilla followed by planta and Craniofacial region.Women were more likely to present this trend.Positive family history was found in 36.45%of PPH cases, otherwise familial inheritance tend to be more obvious in patients with severe PPH.ConclusionThe prevalence rate of primary palmar hyperhidrosis among adolescents in Yangzhou was 3.05%,and the rate of male was higher than female. This research revealed that excessive sweating often begins in childhood(73.56%).This disorder has gender differences in a certain degree, and frequently accompanied by excessive sweating on other lacation.what's more, this disease has obvious genetic predisposition.
