Background and Aims: Hepatitis C virus(HCV)is a one of the main cause of acute and chronic liver diseases including cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. It is one of the main leading causes of liver-related death and the primary reason for having a liver transplant in many countries.WHO estimates that at least 130-170 million people billion people have been infected with HCV globally.About 3–4 million people are newly infected every year worldwide. The hepatitis C infection has been a heavy burden to public health. The objective of this study was to provide data on the patients population and assess seroprevalence of hepatitis C in patient population and to learn the epidemic of hepatitis c virus(HCV)in China. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study to investigate the seroprevalence of hepatitis C among 417,550 inpatients at the First Hospital of Jilin University from January 1,2011 to December 31,2015.To eliminate repetitive inpatient data by comparing the hospital informationsuch as the name, gender, age, diagnosis and hospital department, and the data with other tests was removed.A random sample of 347,996 inpatients was selected, including 44,870 patients hospitalized in department of liver-related and 303,126 hospitalized in department of non-liver-related.Our institution is a large general hospital which includes various departments. The clinical data of 303,216 inpatients in non-liver-related department from various departments were collected and analyzed in SAS,p-values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: First,in the group of subjects with non liver diseases, the patients were divided into 8 groups according to age,0-10,11-20,21-30,31-40,41-50,51-60,61-70,above 71 years old respectively. The overall seroprevalence for hepatitis C virus among 303,126 inpatients was 1.38%,the total positive rate of female was 1.43%(2145/149919).HCV antibody positive rate was 0.10%(33/33154)in 0-10 years,0.09%(10/11428 in 11-20 years,0.35%(98/27757)in 21-30 years,0.63%(206/32490)in 31-40 years,1.30%(722/55717)in 41-50 years,1.94%(1249/64291)in 51-60 years,2.33%(1115/47792)in 61-70 years,2.50%(764/30497)above 71 years, and it was relatively low in thoses under 30 years old,and relatively high above 60 years old patients than other age groups. There are significant differences between genders(?2=4.6368,P< 0.05).Hepatitis C virus seroprevalence was higher(6.10%)in patients with liver diseases compared to the patients hospitalized in the department of non-liver diseases(1.38%).The patients in the surgical departments had higher positive rates of hepatitis C(2.60%)than the non-operative sections(1.54%).And it close to the overall seroprevalence for hepatitis C virus. In addition, the prevalence rate of pregnant women and children were low, that were 0.37% and 0.58%,respectively.More interestingly, seroprevalence for hepatitis C virus was relatively low in patients with Rheumatoid immune related diseases(0.76%).Of the patients who were detected with liver lesions,12.28% were anti-HCV positive. It is one of the vitial cause of HCC.Conclusion: Hospitalized in the liver disease related departments, the rate of anti-HCV positive 1.38%,in which the men anti-HCV positive rate was 1.34%,the female anti-HCV positive rate was 1.43%,and the people over the age of 60 anti-HCV positive rate is higher, the rate of anti-HCV positive in people under 30 years is low.Gender and age were statistically significant. In some special populations, such as department of rheumatology, kidney disease, endocrinology, obstetrics, pediatrics new crowd anti-HCV positive rate were 0.76%,2.19%,4.72%,0.37%,0.58%.Compared with the two results of HCV antibody epidemiology in China, compared the two results of 2006 the positive rates of anti-HCV were increased in our study, but the positive rates of anti-HCV were decreased compared with 1992.And there were significant differences in the age and sex of the inpatients. The study revealed that the seroprevalence for hepatitis C virus was decreasing year by year at our institution during 2011-2015 in China.
