Objectives:To investigate the status of metabolic syndrome(MetS)and its components in a health-check population;to find our characteristics of their body composition at different metabolic status, age, and gender;to discover the relationship between body composition and MetS components. Methods:The study included 649 subjects who went to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University for health check from December 2015 to July 2016,at the Physical examination center. The general information and physical measurement results were collected, such as height, weight and blood pressure. The fasting plasma glucose, blood lipids were measured. The body composition was carried out using Inbody720.According to the diagnostic criteria of Chinese Diabetes Society(CDS),the subjects were divided into three groups,normal(F0)group,pre-MetS(F1)group and MetS(F2)group.Accodring to the quantity of MetS components, the subject were further divided into several groups. The statistical methods including t-test,chi-square test, analysis of variance,rank-sum test, bivariate correlation analysis and logistics regression and ROC curve were used to analyze the relationships among all indices, such as waist, body fat percentage, total water, and etc.Results:(1)The rates of MetS,overweight/obese,hyperglycemia,hypertension,and dyslipidemia were 16.64%,42.37%,17.26%,26.66%,and 30.20% respectively and were positively assiociated with age increase. The MetS rates were 27.64% and 8.56% for male and female respectively(P>0.0.05).(2)BMI,FPG,SBP,DBP,TC,TG,and LDL-C were higher, but HDL-C was lower in subjects in F2 group than those in F0 and F1 groups, while BMI,FPG,SBP,DBP,TC,TG,and LDL-C were higher, but HDL-C was lower in F1 group than that in F0 group(P <0.05)?(3)The percentage of body fat(BF %)was higher in female that that in male at all age stages(P<0.05).The muscle mass, fat free mass, water quantity,BMR,and protein were higher in male than that in women at all age stages(P<0.05).The gender differences of minerals were affected by age.Age affected the body fat percentage, along with the age increasing,BF% was increased, but muscle mass, fat free mass, water,BMR,protein and minerals were decreased(P<0.05).(4)The BF%,muscle mass, water weight,BMR,protein, and minerals were significantly different in the subjects with varied BMI,FPG,blood pressure, blood lipid levels(P<0.05).Along with the enhancing of BMI,FPG,blood pressure,TC,TG,LDL-C,but declining of HDL-C,the BF% was increased, but muscle mass, water, protein, minerals, and BMR were decreased(P < 0.05).(5)Along with the increase of MetS components, overall BF% was increased, but muscle mass, fat free mass, protein, water weight,BMR,protein, minerals were decreased(P<0.05).(6)BF% was positively associated with BMI,DBP,TC,TG,and LDL–C,but negatively assicoated with HDL-C(P<0.05).The muscle mass, water weight,BMR,protein, minerals were positively correlated with BMI,DBP,TC,TG,LDL–C,but negatively with HDL-C(P<0.05).(7)According to the ROC curve, the cutting points of BF%,muscle mass, fat free mass, water, protein, and minerals for MetS prediction were24.95,56.05,58.65,43.55,12.05,and 4.19 respectively for male, and 31.25,39.35,42.95,30.95,8.25,and 3.34 for female.Conclusions:(1)The MetS rate is high in this health-check population, male is higher than female and is positively associated with age.(2)Multiple body components are closelty related with the number of MetS components, which implies that body composition measurement is one of the important methods to screen MetS in health-check population.
