Objective:To explore the regions of altered brain spontaneous brain activity and gray matter volume(GMV)in Patients with Type 2 Diabetic Retinopathy by using the resting-state functional MRI and voxel-based morphometry.Materials and Methods:In this study,18 T2 DM patients with retinopathy(DR group)and 21 non-diabetic retinopathy(NDR group)in Affiliated Zhongshan Hospital of Dalian University and 26 health controls(HC group)were included from March 2015 to December 2016.All participants were right-handed and had more than 6 years education.Exclusion criteria of all participants included cataract and glaucoma, brain infarction or tumor, neurological and psychiatric disease, severe cerebral white matter lesions, participants who had contraindications of MR scan,et al.General infomation were recorded. All participants were accepted cognitive tests. All participants were underwent 3DT1 WI,T2FLAIR and rs-fMRI scan. Two sample t test were used for multiple comparisons.P values less than 0.001 was considered to be statistically significant.Results:1.The ReHo results:compared to HC group,ReHo in DR group decreased in the bilateral middle occipital gyrus, the left lingual gyrus, postcentral gyrus and cerebellum, the right middle cingulate and inferior parietal lobule, increased in the bilateral cerebellum, the left middle frontal gyrus and middle temporal gyrus;compared to NDR group,ReHo in DR group decreased in the right angular gyrus and middle frontal gyruus, the left inferior parietal lobule, increased the left inferior occipital gyrus, right superior occipital gyrus and superior parietal gyrus;compared to HC group,ReHo in NDR group decreased in the left middle occipital gyrus, inferior occipital gyrus, angular gryus and inferior temporal gyrus, the right middle cingulate, the bilateral postcentral gyrus, increased in the bilateral superior and middle frontal gyrus, the left precuneus.2.The ALFF results:compared to HC group,ALFF in DR group decreased in the right lingual gyru and precenus, increased in the bilateral middle frontal gryus, cingulate and cerebellum, the left middle temporal gryus and the right supramarginalis;compared to NDR group,ALFF in DR group decreased in the right angulars gyrus, the left inferior parietal and superior frontal gyrus the bliteral precuneus, increased in the right parahippocampal gyrus and supramarginal gyrus;compared to HC group,ALFF in NDR group decreased in the bilateral postcentral gyrus, increased in the bilateral superior and middle frontal gyrus, the right angulars, the left thalamus.3.The VBM results: compared to HC group,GMV in DR group decreased in the bilateral calcarine, lingual gyrus and cerebellum, the right middle temporal gyrus, fusiform gyrus, hippocampus, the left precenus, superior temporal gyrus, anterior cingulate, superior and middle frontal gryus;compared to NDR group,GMV in DR group decreased in the right cerebellum, the left middle frontal gyrus, middle temporal gryus, the left fusiform gyrus and lingual gyrus;compared to HC group,GMV in NDR group decreased in the bilateral inferior temporal gyrus, the left superior temporal gyrus and middle occipital gyrus, the right insular, the left cerebellum, increased in the right inferior occipital gyrus. Conclusion:Patients with diabetic retinopathy were abnormal in default mode network and visual cortex of spontaneous brain activity and gray matter volume, though they can be found in the conventional magnetic.Altered ReHo?ALFF ?GMV value may provide vital biological information for research of brain damage and possible compensatory mechanism on early stage.
