Objective:To investigate the clinical outcome of treatment in an adult Angle class III malocclusionby multiloop edgewise archwire(MEAW)technique.Materials and methods:An adult female patient,28 and 3 months years old, with an Angle class ? malocclusion was selected from the Orthodontic Department ofthe affiliated Stomotology Hospital of Dalian Medical University in June 2014.The patient had an anterior incisor bite malocclusion, the upper midline was consisted with the facial midline but the lower one shifted to the left by about 0.5mm.The relationship of left molar and canine was Class ? and the right was Class ?.Through the patient s clinical examination, cephalometric analysis, model analysis and photo analysis,we made an orthodontic treatment plan.Treatment involved extraction of upper and lower third molar and 0.018 X 0.025 inch standered edgewise appliances with the MEAW technique concept. After initial alignment and leveling had been achieved by sequential use of round to rectangular Ni-Ti wires,a MEAW was placed on the upper and lower arch to up-straight and distal movement of lower molar.Using the short Class III elastic(5/16 inch,6 ounces)to resolve the Class III malocclusion and/or to correct the lower midline shift. After the achievement of the treatment purpose, removed the fixed appliance,Hawley retainers were placed on both arches immediately to make stable.Take the post-treatment lateral cephalometric film and model. Results:The treatment process lasted 11 months in total.Compared the patient's cephalometric analysis of pre-treatment with the post-treatment's:the molar relationship has been changed to Class I,and the normal overbite and overjet has been achieved. The vertical was in control(FMA increased 0.8°).The upper and lower incisors has been retroclined.Profile was maintained. The patient had an acceptable intercuspation with the maxillary dentition and satisfied with the results of the therapy. Conclusion:MEAW technique was applied to control each tooth precisely, the molar was up-straighted and incisors retroclined.Profile was maintained and the occlusion was improved. The effect is significant.
